Epsom & Ewell council tax bands 2026 to 2027

A Band D property in Epsom & Ewell pays £2,530.84 a year, the 4th lowest of Surrey's 11 boroughs and districts. That is the total bill, not the borough's share.

Where the money goes

Most of a Epsom & Ewell bill is not Epsom & Ewell Borough Council. The largest share goes to Surrey County Council, which runs schools, social care, roads and libraries. Separate precepts fund Surrey Police and Surrey Fire & Rescue, and Epsom & Ewell Borough Council keeps a comparatively small share for bin collections, planning, parks and housing.

Why the bands look so odd

Every band is a fixed fraction of Band D, set in law: Band A is six ninths of it, Band H is twice Band D. So one figure determines the whole table. The bands themselves are based on what a property was worth on 1 April 1991. England has never revalued, which is why a house built last year is still slotted into a 1991 price bracket.

If your bill differs

These are the billing authority averages. Parish and town councils in Epsom & Ewell add their own precept, so a bill in a parished village runs slightly higher than one in an unparished town. Discounts are applied separately - a single adult household gets 25% off, and there are reductions for students, carers and empty properties.

The same bands apply across the borough, including Epsom.
